The Memphis Movement

The Memphis design movement was an Italian design and architecture group formed in the 1980's by Ettore Sottsass. The main distinction within their work and design process revolved around the idea of challenging 'good' design through the application of garish and ornamental pattern and product. Their distinctive and unrestrictive use of colour and pattern has provided me with one of my strongest source of reference within my project. I have tried to keep a very loose yet connective style of shape and colour throughout my development work, so although my project work is very abstract the repetition of shape and colour help to achieve a fluid 'handwriting'.
